At first, the star within the ring was prominently positioned on top of the bonnet. Later on, the brand symbol was made larger and placed in the middle of the radiator grille – and also on the wheels, steering wheels and tank filler caps, for example. It is also used in advertising. “Your good star on all roads” was a popular Mercedes-Benz advertising slogan at one time. The star shines – and has helped the brand shine on every continent.
The star in the ring shines magnificently – on rims as well.
Star of our time: the Mercedes-Benz EQS bears the central star in a newly designed vehicle front.
An important milestone in the story of the star was marked by the 204-series C-Class, which was launched in 2007: customers could choose either the classic Mercedes star on the bonnet or a large central star in the radiator grille. This was one of the most important design responses to current trends, explained the former chief designer Peter Pfeiffer – the time was ripe for a dynamic front design in all segments. With a lasting effect: today, the central star shapes the brand image in the eyes of the public.
If you want to get close to a special star, you don’t have to search the sky with a telescope these days. All it takes is a visit to the Mercedes-Benz Museum. The outdoor area is expected to host a Stuttgart landmark until 2025: the Mercedes star from the tower of the city’s train station, with a diameter of five metres. The reason is the modernisation work currently being carried out on the tower.
Worth a visit: the star from Stuttgart’s train station is currently standing in front of the Mercedes-Benz Museum.
